Ferran Torres wears ‘Make Spain Great Again’ hat at World Cup parade
Spain celebrated their World Cup victory with a homecoming parade, where forward Ferran Torres was seen wearing a hat bearing the slogan “Make Spain Great Again.” This phrase is an adaptation of the “Make America Great Again” slogan. The celebration in Madrid followed Spain‘s win over Argentina in the final match.
Torres, who scored the winning goal in extra time, posted a picture of himself on a vehicle with the hat and without a shirt, amidst a large crowd of fans. The hat’s appearance coincided with Donald Trump presenting the World Cup trophy to Spain captain Rodri and the team after their victory. Trump, along with First Lady Melania Trump and FIFA president Gianni Infantino, attended the final.
Spain’s Dominant Performance
Spain secured their second men’s World Cup title by defeating Argentina. The match, which went into extra time, saw Torres score in the 106th minute, preventing a penalty shootout. His goal came after a cross, with the ball landing at his left foot, allowing him to score past Argentina‘s goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez.
Reflecting on the victory, Torres stated that the goal represented the efforts of 47 million people, not just those on the field. He expressed that destiny was on their side for the win. This marks only the second time Spain has reached the World Cup Final, and like in 2010, they returned home with the trophy.
The team’s performance throughout the tournament was notable. Spain maintained 65% possession in the final, recorded an expected goals tally of 1.94, and had 20 shots on goal, with 11 on target. Goalkeeper Unai Simon earned the Golden Glove award for the tournament’s best goalkeeper, keeping his seventh clean sheet in eight matches. Spain conceded only one goal during the entire 2026 World Cup, which is the fewest conceded by any winning team in the competition’s history.
Former England captain Alan Shearer commented on Spain‘s win, calling it a “victory for football” due to their control of possession and offensive play. He added that Spain deserved the win for their style of play.

Following the final whistle, there were altercations on the pitch between Argentina and Spain players, which FIFA is investigating. Despite these incidents, celebrations for Spain began late on Sunday and continued, particularly in Madrid.

His Barcelona teammate Lamine Yamal, at 19 years and six days, became the third-youngest player to participate in a World Cup Final and the third-youngest winner, following Pele in 1958 and Giuseppe Bergomi in 1982.
Argentina‘s performance in the final was marked by defensive play, with Leandro Paredes and Enzo Fernandez being prominent. Argentina made 464 passes compared to Spain‘s 852. Emiliano Martinez made 11 saves, the most by any goalkeeper in a World Cup Final on record. Argentina did not register a shot in the first 90 minutes of the final, with their first attempt coming from Lionel Messi in the 117th minute. Enzo Fernandez received two yellow cards, leading to his dismissal, while Paredes was involved in several post-match confrontations.
Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni acknowledged that the better team won, despite his team taking the final to extra time.
Torres and his teammates are expected to return to their respective clubs in the coming months to begin their seasons.
